Vesta Phelps Davenport, 87, of the 5400 block of Welaka Road, died Saturday, Dec. 30, 1995, in a local hospital.
Mrs. Davenport was a native of Creswell, N.C. The past 16 years she resided in Norfolk. She was a member of Phillipi Church of Christ, Cherry, N.C., for many years. While living in Norfolk, she was a member of Laurel Avenue Church of Christ. She was predeceased by her husband, Hoyt R. Davenport.
Surviving are three daughters, Norma D. Stillman of Virginia Beach, Nita D. Horton of Norfolk and Kerry D. Cain of Cary, N.C.; a son, Hoyt R. Davenport Jr. of Williamsburg; two stepsons, Jewel H. Davenport of Elizabeth City, N.C., and Dennis L. Davenport of Portsmouth; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Indian River Chapel. A funeral will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in Phillipi Church of Christ, Cherry, by the Rev. David L. Sykes of the church, and the Rev. Rupert C. Wallace of Laurel Avenue Church of Christ. Burial will be in Scuppernong Church of Christ Cemetery. The body will be placed in the church at 12:30 p.m.
