TRANSPORTATION
Steven A. Evans was appointed assistant vice president of finance at Norfolk Southern Corp.'s finance department. He succeeds William R. Martin, who retired. Evans, joined Southern Railway, a Norfolk Southern predecessor, as a management trainee in the marketing division in 1977. He most recently worked as director of risk and capital planning.
ACCOUNTING Sharon K. Nickle was promoted to principal with Bresenoff & Associates in Virginia Beach. She has been with the firm for six years and was formerly the audit and accounting manager. She will continue to practice in the areas of small business tax and accounting and auditing.
CONSTRUCTION
H. Chris Brandt III and Daniel P. Hassett have joined Hourigan Martone Construction Corp. in Virginia Beach. Brandt was named vice president of operations. He will be responsible for all office and field contracting activities and the formulation and implementation of all corporate operating policies. Previously, Brandt was senior project manager for Roy Anderson Corp. in Gulfport, Miss. Hassett was named project manager for the company and will be responsible for the project management of several new construction and renovation projects for the company. Previously, he was project manager for Cumberland American Inc. in Atlanta.
ENGINEERING
G. Donald Gartrell III was named senior project engineer with the civil engineering and planning firm of William C. Overman Associates in Virginia Beach. He specializes in the design of water and sewer facilities. Previously, he was a project manager at AES Consulting Engineers in Williamsburg.
HEALTH CARE
John A. Ullian was named director of faculty development at Eastern Virginia Medical School. He comes to the medical school from Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, where he was associate director of pre-doctoral programs and an assistant professor in the department of family medicine.
J. Jerry Kantor, Dr. Willette L. LeHew and Winston M. Whitehurst Sr. were reappointed to the Medical College of Hampton Roads Board of Visitors, the governing body of Eastern Virginia Medical School. Kantor is president of Broudy Kantor Co.; LeHew is a partner with The Group for Women; and Whitehurst is a visiting assistant professor of history at Elizabeth City State University and a consultant with Municipal Advisors Inc. in Virginia Beach.
Jo Clare Hartsig was named executive director at the Beach Health Clinic. She will be responsible for the operations of the clinic including staff leadership, facility management, budget management and administration. Prior to this, she was shelter manager for the Portsmouth Area Resources Coalition Shelter for Homeless Families since 1994.
LAW
John B. Gaidies was named an associate at Joynes and Bieber in Virginia Beach. He was formerly a partner with Smith and Gaidies in Norfolk. He will specialize in plaintiff's personal injury recovery for the law firm.
W. Trent Dudley and Lynne M. Ferris were named associates with Knight, Dudley, Clarke & Dolph in Norfolk. Dudley is a 1995 graduate of George Mason University School of Law. He will primarily practice in commercial areas including corporations, partnerships, limited liability companies, acquisitions, commercial litigation and real estate. Ferris received her law degree from Union University at Albany Law School. Her areas of practice include litigation under the Virginia Workers' Compensation Act and the Longshore and Harbor Workers' Compensation Act and civil litigation.
Lisa S. Brook, Kip A. Harbison and Jack O. Kingsley have joined Glasser and Glasser in Norfolk. Brook, a former attorney adviser to the U.S. Department of Labor, Office of Administrative Law Judges in Norfolk, will work in the firm's asbestos litigation department. Harbison, a 1995 graduate of the University of Virginia Law School, will join the firm's FELA department, and Kingsley, an attorney with 43 years of experience, rejoins the firm's real estate and business law department.
J. Max Barger was named an associate with Davis, Irwin & Brynteson in Chesapeake. He will specialize in the areas of estate planning, business law and trademark/copyright. He is a recent graduate of the Regent University School of Law.
Also, Douglas H. Cook has become of counsel with Davis, Irwin & Brynteson. His areas of expertise are non profit, tax-exempt charitable and religious organizations and personal injury law. He has been a full time professor at the Regent law school for eight years.
ORGANIZATIONS
The American Institute of Architects of Hampton Roads elected Patrick Masterson as their president and Daniel L. Sampson as vice president for the 1996 year. Masterson is a practicing architect in Virginia Beach and Sampson is assistant treasurer and vice president operations with Forrest Coile Associates in Newport News.
