Lillie H. Fields, co-founder of Lili's of Ghent, passed away Dec. 31, 1995, in a local nursing home.
Mrs. Fields was born in Norfolk on Feb. 26, 1907. She graduated from Maury High School and was a retired buyer for the Smith and Welton Department Store group where she started in 1927. She and her son, James A. Fields, opened Lili's of Ghent in 1985.
She was the widow of the late Hubert R. Fields of Norfolk and is survived by her son, James; her daughter, Virginia Fields Emerson of Ruxton, Md.; her grandson, James Peyton Emerson; granddaughter, Katherine Mariah Emerson; and her son-in-law, John D. Emerson. She is also survived by her three sisters, Viollette H. Layton, Evelyn H. Norden, both of Norfolk, and Virginia H. Seawell of Louisville, Ky.; one niece and four nephews.
The family will receive friends at H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Norfolk Chapel, Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. A funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday in the Episcopal Church of the Ascension by the Rev. Mark S. Delcuze. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested memorial donations be made to the Episcopal Church of the Ascension, Talbot Hall Road and Newport Avenue, Norfolk.
