George James Whitehurst, of the 5000 block of Booker St., died Dec. 28, 1995, in Chesapeake General Hospital.
Mr. Whitehurst, a native of Norfolk, was a member of Basilica St. Mary's of the Immaculate Conception. He was a faithful and dedicated leader of the Boy Scouts of America Troop 70 for many, many years. He was a member of Knights of Columbus (NU)367.
Survivors include his wife, Namoni D. Whitehurst; a daughter, Rosalind D. Whitehurst of Chesapeake; two sons, Dwight M. Whitehurst of Virginia Beach, Staff Sgt. Timothy C. Whitehurst of California; a sister, Arthelia D. Whitehurst of Wyanch, N.Y.; nine grandchildren; a nephew; four nieces; and a host of other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his mother and father, Emma Odom and Charles Hubert Whitehurst, and a brother, Charles H. Whitehurst Jr.
The funeral will be conducted at noon Thursday in Basilica St. Mary's of Immaculate Conception by Father Walter Barrett. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park. The remains will be ready for viewing at 3 p.m. Wednesday. There will be a Christian Wake service from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday. The family will assemble at 5001 Booker St. at 11 a.m. for the procession. Carlos A. Howard Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
