William Wade Olive Jr., 84, of 106 W. King St., died Monday, Jan. 1, 1996, in Chowan Hospital.
A native of Durham, N.C., Mr. Olive was a son of the late Dr. William Wade and Agnes Makely Olive and the husband of Mrs. Adelaide Cronk Olive of Edenton for 61 years.
Mr. Olive was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Winston-Salem for 72 years before transferring his membership to St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Edenton where his parents were married and he was baptized. Mr. Olive proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1947 until 1956 as captain of his armored division, and later as the commanding officer of his reserve unit in Winston-Salem. He was a member of the Military Order of World Wars and the Retired Officers Association, both of Winston-Salem.
In his professional career, Mr. Olive was the former owner of the Edenton Ford Motor Co., was a former buyer for the R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. and retired from Methods Management with AT&T.
Surviving other than his wife are his son-in-law and daughter, Woodrow L. and Page Olive Pegram Bolz of Edenton; two grandsons, Douglas Wade Pegram and Bryce William Bolz, both of Edenton; three first cousins, Mrs. J.H. Alice Cason Lineberger of Charlotte, N.C., Mr. Percy Olive and Miss Anne Lydia Olive, both of Raleigh.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday in St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Edenton, by the Rev. Russell Johnson. Burial will follow in Beaver Hill Cemetery with military honors. The family will receive friends at the residence at 106 W. King St., Edenton. Evans Funeral Home, Edenton, is in charge. Memorials may be made to St. Pauls' Episcopal Church, 101 W.
