TUGS FREE CARGO SHIP AFTER IT RUNS AGROUND

A cargo ship carrying iron ore ran aground in the fog Monday morning about two miles north of Cape Henry, a Coast Guard spokesman said.

The ship, headed to Baltimore from Germany, ran aground about 5:30 a.m. as it approached the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel.

There was no apparent damage to the ship, the spokesman said.

The vessel was freed by tugboats at high tide about 6:20 p.m.

After inspection by the Coast Guard, the ship was released to continue on to Baltimore under its own power.
