William Cecil Smith, 77, of the 400 block of Plummer Drive, died Jan. 2, 1996, in Portsmouth.
He was a retired foreman in Shop 26 of the Naval Shipyard. Mr. Smith was a native of Jonesville, Va., and was a member of Preston Masonic Lodge of Jonesville, Va. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
He is survived by his wife, Laura S. Smith; two daughters, Saluda Stapleton of Stanton, Va., and Sharon Dickmann of Wilmington, N.C.; two sons, William Cecil Smith Jr. of Ooltewah, Tenn., and James L. Smith of Richmond, Va.; a sister; four brothers; 11 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be conducted at 7 p.m. today by the Rev. Milford Rollins in Snellings Funeral Home, George Washington Highway Chapel. Burial will be private and in Hampton National Cemetery. The family will receive friends following the memorial service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Deep Creek Emergency Medical.
