Nellie D. Cowand, 80, of the 2500 block of Beaufort Ave., died Jan. 1, 1996, in Portsmouth.
She was a native of Bertie County, N.C., and the widow of Ernest Lee Cowand. She was a member of Bayside Baptist Church, Virginia Beach.
She is survived by a daughter, Martha Pardo of Virginia Beach; four sisters, Marie D. Lassiter of Colerain, N.C., Fannie D. Carlisle of Norfolk, June D. Culpepper of Portsmouth, and Shirley D. Fitchette of Jacksonville, Fla.; two brothers, James C. Davidson Jr. of Portsmouth and George A. Davidson of Virginia Beach; three granddaughters, Susan Chambers, Kathy Odom and Michelle Jones; and three great-grandsons.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday by the Rev. Donald Wilson in Bayside Baptist Church. Burial will be in Rosewood Memorial Park, Virginia Beach. The family will be at Francis A. Gay Funeral Home, South Norfolk Chapel, Chesapeake, Thursday from 7 to 8 p.m.
