North Carolina Senate President Pro Tem Marc Basnight, D-Dare, has appointed six Albemarle residents to serve on state committees.
All the committees are expected to submit their final reports to the 1996 General Assembly.
Joe Deneke, a Kill Devil Hills resident who owns a furniture store and formerly served as mayor of that Outer Banks beach town, will be a member of the state's Revenue and Tax Issues Committee. The committee was established to study diesel fuel payment methods, interstate tax agreements, nonprofit continuing care facilities' property tax exemptions and revenue laws.
Melvin R. Daniels Jr., a former member of the North Carolina Senate and retired senior vice president of People's Bank, will serve on the state's Water Issues Committee. Daniels is a resident of Elizabeth City. His committee studies drinking water tests and water conservation measures.
Webb Fuller, resident and town manager of Nags Head, will serve on the state's Property Issues Committee. That group studies annexation laws, condemnation by government entities, extraterritorial jurisdiction representation and other property matters.
Marcia Fearing, a Nags Head broker who is affiliated with Village Realty Commercial and Residential Sales, will serve on the state's Insurance Issues Committee. The committee studies coastal insurance availability and affordability, long-term care insurance, and statewide flexible benefits programs.
Mollie Fearing, a Manteo resident who owns an insurance company, also will serve on the state's Insurance Issues Committee.
Jerry Tillett, a Manteo resident who is Dare County's Resident Superior Court judge, will serve on the state's Guardian Ad Litem Committee. That committee studies funding, costs and processes associated with the current Guardian Ad Litem Program. by CNB
