Michael Hillinch Sr., 73, of the 700 block of Canal Drive, went to be with the Lord on Jan. 2, 1996, from a Chesapeake hospital.
He was a native of St. Michaels, Pa., and was a retired carpenter for Local 303 where he had worked for 35 years. He was a member of Lee Memorial Baptist Church, Chesapeake. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, a past commander of VFW Post 993, and past chaplain of VFW Post 993.
He is survived by his daughter, Pamela Simmons of Dunn, N.C.; son, Michael Hillinch Jr. of Chesapeake; two grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a host of friends, nieces, and nephews; and Pepper too.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday in Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel, by the Rev. Tom Potter and Dr. Ray O. Jones. Burial is in Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m.
