JAMES A. BAKER

James Alexander ``Brother'' Baker, 73, of the 500 block of Liberty St., died Dec. 30, 1995, in DePaul Hospital.

Mr. Baker, a retired laborer, was self-employed for 20 years. He retired in 1990. Mr. Baker was a native of Virginia Beach.

Survivors include his wife, Maine Baker; five daughters, Mildred Lindsey, Angela Baker, Carrie Baker and Maggie Baker of Virginia Beach, Rosetta Hawkins of Norfolk; seven sons, Clinton Baker, Carlton Baker, Calvin Baker, Edward Baker, Wyner Baker, James Baker, and Kenny Gordon, all of Virginia Beach; five sisters, Florine Waters, Alma Brown and Minnie Morris of Norfolk, Rosina Robinson and Margaret Woodhouse of Virginia Beach; a brother, Mr. Lee Baker; 40 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two daughters, Alma Baker and Hattie Knight; a sister, Lilly Mae Jones; and two brothers, William Henry Baker and Linwood Baker, and his parents, Mary Joyner Baker and James Baker.

The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday in Greater Works Ministry, Chesapeake, 4136 Nautilis Ave., Chesapeake, by the Rev. Gary Wiggins. Burial will be in Riverside. P.G. Thomasson Funeral Services in charge.
