Former Gov. Gerald L. Baliles has filed for divorce from his wife of 31 years.
Jeannie P. Baliles and her husband have signed a property settlement agreement, according to papers filed in Richmond Circuit Court. The papers ask that the court seal the agreement. State law permits details of divorces to be private, and such a request is routine in high-profile cases.
Edward D. Barnes, Gerald Baliles' attorney, said Wednesday that the divorce is ``probably one of the most cordial and friendly ones I've had. These are first-class people.''
The couple last lived together in April, according to the suit. Because their two children are adults, they must be separated for only six months before they can file for a no-fault divorce. by CNB
