TWO-TIME Eastern District champion Maury High filled four of the seven slots on the all-league volleyball team voted upon by league coaches.
Leading the way for the Commodores, who reached the quarterfinals of the region tournament before falling to Kempsville, was Paige Giffin.
Giffin, a senior outside hitter, shared Player of the Year honors with Booker T. Washington senior outside hitter Jennelle Holloman.
The Bookers' only first-team selection, Holloman led her team to a tournament title and a quarterfinal region appearance.
Joining Giffin and Holloman on the first team were repeat selections Raschel Rasshti, the 1994 Player of the Year from Maury; junior hitters Oksana Bouhtina and Richek Valdez, both of Maury; Granby's Jessica Kock and Tannya Jones, both two-time all-district performers and Claudia Canestraro, a senior setter.
Named to the second team were Booker T. Washington's Karen Johnson, a senior outside hitter, and juniors Raquita Washington and Jill Layug; Norview sophomore hitter Kim Fair; Granby senior defensive specialist Wynter Edwards; and Lake Taylor sophomore hitter Kristen Collier.
Earning honorable mention were Lake Taylor senior middle hitter Toshiko Okanda, sophomore setter Jane Cabales and freshman middle hitter Sara Midkiff; Granby defensive specialist Natalie Weatherburn; and Maury senior hitters Alfreda Skinner and Elmer Rojas. ILLUSTRATION: File photo by JIM WALKER
