Strange indeed is the Navy's decision to name one of its carriers for President Truman.
During the service unification battles of the late 1940s, the Navy's worst enemy was Harry S. Truman. Had the views of Mr. Truman and Defense Secretary Louis Johnson prevailed, the Marine Corps would have been abolished, naval aviation all but eliminated and the Navy itself reduced to a merchant fleet.
This ship should be named after Franklin D. Roosevelt as a worthy successor to its predecessor (CV-42) and a well-deserved tribute to our wartime president and true friend of the Navy!
