Edith Childress Smith, 68, of 225 Tomahawk Drive, died Saturday, Dec. 30, 1995, in her home. She was the wife of Samuel Fulton Smith Jr.
Born Feb. 11, 1927, in Lynchburg, she was a daughter of the late James B. and Lucy Hamlett Childress. She was a member of Beulah Baptist Church.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by four children, Robert Fulton Smith of Forest, Dennis Edward Smith of Chesapeake, Patricia S. Arthur of Lynchburg and Mildred S. Agee of Richmond; a sister, Rachel C. Hedrick of Annandale; and two brothers, Fred Wilson Childress of Lynchburg, and Robert Huey Childress; seven grandchildren, Suzanne Noelle Smith of Richmond, Robert Wade Smith, Patrick Thomas Smith, Jason Daniel Hudson, Jeremi Cain Hudson, all of Lynchburg, Megan Kate Agee of Richmond, and Samantha Ann Smith of Chesapeake. She was preceded in death by a brother, William Holmes Childress.
A graveside service was held Tuesday at 1 p.m. in Virginia Memorial Park with the Rev. Grover Putnum and the Rev. Tony Gurganus. Diuguid Funeral Service, Lynchburg, in charge.
