George W. Johnson, 91, of McBride Street, died Jan. 5, 1996, in Elizabeth City.
He was a native of South Mills, and was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, South Mills. He was also a member of New Lebanon Lodge (NU)314 AF and AM; Elizabeth City York Rite Bodies; Sudan Temple, A.A.O.N.M.S.
He is survived by his wife, Bernice Whitehurst Johnson; daughter, Joyce J. Best of Chesapeake; brother, Macon Johnson of South Mills; three grandsons, J. Duane Best of Portsmouth, G. Michael Best and R. Stephen Best, both of Chesapeake; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday by the Rev. Carolyn R. Smith in New Hollywood Cemetery, Elizabeth City. Masonic rites will be accorded at the site by New Lebanon Masonic Lodge. Memorial donations should be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 100, South Mills, N.C. 27976. Graham Funeral Home, South Norfolk Chapel, is in charge of the arrangements.
