Norfolk firefighters, top, inspected the burned-out Cottage Toll

Exxon service station at Tidewater Drive and Bayview Boulevard about

6 p.m. Friday after a two-alarm blaze swept the station and

destroyed vehicles inside.

station, expresses relief after being resued from the fire by a

volunteer firefighter. The blaze started when an employee, draining

the gasoline tank of a car in a service bay, loosened a plug on the

tank, spilling fuel onto the floor and a hand-held electric lamp,

fire officials said. The heat of the bulb ignited the gasoline

fumes.
