MINNIE L. HARRIS

Minnie L. Harris, 80, of the 800 block of Washington Ave., died Jan. 4, 1996, in Sentara Leigh Memorial Hospital.

She was a native of Portsmouth and the daughter of the late John and Ethel Lee. She was a member of St. John A.M.E. Church, Norfolk, where she was a member of the Stewardess Board (NU)4; Usher Board (NU)2; the Gospel Choir, Douglas Studivant Sunday school class, Dorothy Jacobs Fellowship Group; and the Nanny Phelps Missionary Society. Mrs. Harris was a member of St. Thomas (NU)51; Order of Eastern Star (PHA); Sedalia Social Club; and was a member of the Zeta Amicae Auxilliary of the Beta Theta Zeta Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority. She was a sales clerk in the millinery department of Altschul's and The Famous Department Store.

She is survived by her husband, Alvin B. Harris of the home; two daughters, Barbara Harris Payton of Oakland, Calif., and Dr. Evelyn Harris-Wigglesworth of Virginia Beach; a sister, Marion Green of St. Mary's, Ga.; a grandson, Capt. Jamal E. Wigglesworth of Fort Lee, Va.; and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at noon Monday by the Rev. I.W. Knight in St. John A.M.E. Church, 415 E. Bute St., Norfolk. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. There will be a viewing today from 1 to 6 p.m. at Riddick Funeral Home. The body will be placed in the church at 10:30 a.m. Monday. The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 1 to 3 p.m. and at 5653 Dodington Ct., Virginia Beach, at other times. ILLUSTRATION: Photo
