Lawrence Lee Mednick, 66, of the 100 block of 62nd St., died Jan. 6, 1996, in his home.
Mr. Mednick was born in Norfolk. He was a member of Ohef Sholom Temple in Norfolk, and was a graduate of Maury High School. He received his B.S. in architectural engineering from Virginia Polytechnic Institute. Mr. Mednick had served in U.S. Navy from 1952 to 1956 and was honorably discharged as a lieutenant junior grade. Mr. Mednick was retired from Globe Iron Construction Co. Inc. as President and Chief Engineer. Mr. Mednick represents the combination of musician, artist, innovator, businessman and public servant, a true Renaissance man. He was 2nd Violinist with the Feldman Quartet for over 25 years. He served as president of the Virginia Beach Center for the Arts. He served on the City of Virginia Beach Arts and Humanities Commission, was a member of the advisory panel, State of Virginia Commission. He served on many professional boards relating to the structural steel industry. His sculptures are publicly exhibited throughout Virginia and abroad.
Survivors include his wife, Martha Owens Mednick; a daughter, Gia Mednick Pfenning of Raleigh, N.C.; two sons, Michael J. Mednick of Dana Point, Calif., and Andrew S. Mednick of Blue Ridge Mountains in Virginia; a sister, Miriam M. Peregoff of Virginia Beach; and three grandchildren, Celia M. Pfenning, Morgan Mednick and Hannah P. Mednick.
A Temple service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 9, 1996, in Ohef Sholom Temple by Rabbi Lawrence A. Forman. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Norfolk. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at 110 62nd Street, Virginia Beach, Va. 23451. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Maurice L. Mednick Memorial Trust Fund for the Independent Colleges of Virginia or to the Jewish Community Center of Tidewater, 7300 Newport Ave., Norfolk, Va. 23405. H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Laskin Road Chapel, is handling arrangements.
