Ellen Elizabeth Dowdy Meekins, 74, died Friday, Jan. 5, 1996, in a local hospital.
Mrs. Meekins was born in Kitty Hawk and was a Methodist and a homemaker. She was the daughter of the late William Ivy and Elnora Dowdy and the wife of the late Ernest Meekins Jr.
Surviving are two daughters, Mona Meekins Crutchfield and Dorothy Meekins Hassell, both of Portsmouth; one son, Ernest E. Meekins of Dewitt, Ark.; sister, Ernestine Dowdy of Chesapeake; and a brother, Delton Dowdy of Manteo; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
A memorial service will be held Monday at 11 a.m. in the Twiford Colony Chapel by the Rev. Robert Bundy. Burial will be in the Austin Cemetery in Kitty Hawk. Friends may join the family at Twiford Funeral Home, today from 7 to 8 p.m. Twiford Colony Chapel, Manteo, is handling the arrangements.
