Perhaps Allan Rothenberg (``Wrong vote on flag,'' letter, Dec. 24, 1995) overlooked something when casting doubt on Sen. Charles Robb's patriotism because of his vote against a constitutional amendment forbidding flag desecration: Senator Robb is a veteran with a distinguished record as an officer in the Marine Corps.
I myself was a member of the armed forces and applaud Senator Robb for his decision to vote against the proposed amendment. When I enlisted, it was not out of love or loyalty to a piece of fabric emblazoned with a design; it was to protect the values and rights which the American flag and its people stand for.
