John Sherwin Richardson, 74, died Jan. 7, 1996, at Obici Hospital in Suffolk.
He was a son of the late Percy W. and Annie Edwards Richardson. Mr. Richardson was a member of the Rocky Hock United Methodist Church, and a retired supervisor with Smithfield Packing.
Mr. Richardson is survived by his wife, Frances Bailey Richardson of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, John S. Jr. and Charlene Byrum Richardson of New Holland, Pa.; a daughter and son-in-law, Ann Dale and William R. Sutherland of Surry, Va.; five grandchildren, Stephen, Jason and David Richardson, and Amy and Reid Sutherland.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Rocky Hock United Methodist Church by the Rev. Randy Duncan. Interment will follow in Rocky Hock Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at Purviance Funeral Home, Wakefield Chapel. Donations may be made to the Rocky Hock UMC Memorial Fund, c/o J.C. Whitmore Jr., 2847 White Marsh Road, Wakefield, Va., 23888.
