Regarding the budget deficit and The Virginian-Pilot front-page report on Jan. 1 on stalled budget talks that caused 760,000 federal workers to be furloughed, I suggest:
Declare members of Congress nonessential personnel and furlough them indefinitely without pay. This action would result in substantial savings without any noticeable difference in the legislative process.
