Irving Lee ``Buggy'' Boyce, 74, of 680 Manns Chapel Road, died Sunday, Jan. 7, 1996, in UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill, N.C.
A native of South Norfolk, Mr. Boyce was the son of the late William Jessie Boyce and Nancy V. Dail Boyce. Mr. Boyce, a World War II veteran, served on the Byrd expedition to the North Pole and retired from the U.S. Navy in 1959. He was director of Food Services at UNC Hospitals from 1961 until retirement in 1978. Mr. Boyce was also a member of the Navy Fleet Reserves.
Surviving are his wife, Lorraine Smith Byrd; a daughter, Terri B. Glad of San Diego, Calif.; three sons, Irving L. Boyce of Silver Point, Tenn., David W. Boyce of Pittsboro, and Brian L. Boyce of Durham, N.C.; a sister, Lois V. Boyce Lankford of Norfolk; three brothers, Carlton D. Boyce of Virginia Beach, the Rev. Edward L. Boyce of Midlothian, Va., and Wilbur L. Boyce of Chesapeake; and four grandchildren.
The funeral will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. in Walker's Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Ellen Metcalf. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today in the funeral home in Chapel Hill.
