James Herbert ``Clutch'' Jones, 66, of the 200 block of Staley Drive, died Jan. 8, 1996, in Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, Norfolk.

He was a retired machinist for Newport News Shipbuilding until he retired after 30 years of service. He was a native of Gates County, N.C., and a member of Bethlehem Christian Church, Suffolk. He was a member of the Suffolk Moose Lodge (NU)141.

He is survived by his wife, Frances Vick Jones; daughter, Sharon J. Byrd of Suffolk; two sons, Timothy L. Jones of Long Beach, N.C., and James M. Jones of Suffolk; four sisters, Josephine Riddick, Lena Quimby, Janie Phelps and Evelyn Pitscheneder, all of Suffolk; two brothers, Frank J. Jones of Portsmouth and Milton C. Jones of Suffolk; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. He was predeceased by two grandchildren; and his parents, Florence and Herbert Jones.

A funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday by the Rev. Carter Dey in Sidney F. Harrell Funeral Home, Suffolk. Burial will be in Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens, Suffolk. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday from 7 to 8 p.m. and other times at the residence and suggests that memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 360 Southport Circle, Suite 104, Virginia Beach, Va. 23452.
