MARGARET S. WINTER

Margaret Sykes (Margo) Winter, 41, of 806 Clay St., died Jan. 8, 1996, in Southampton Memorial Hospital.

Mrs. Winter was a native of Franklin and was a longtime tennis professional in Virginia and South Carolina. She taught over 5,000 children and adults through the U.S. Tennis Association's Schools Program. She was a former tennis professional for the Williamsburg Parks and Recreation Department and an assistant professional for the Williamsburg Inn, former professional at Cypress Cove Country Club and James L. Camp YMCA in Franklin and former professional at the Woodlands Country Club in Columbia, S.C. Along will her husband, Tom, she was three-time Husband and Wife South Carolina State Champions and in 1994 was ranked number one in the south in husband and wife doubles and number one in 35 and over mixed doubles. Mrs. Winter was a former member of the Board of Directors of the Junior Tennis League of Columbia, a former member of the Franklin Downtown Development Committee, member of the Daughters of the Confederacy and was a certified professional in the U.S. Professional Tennis Registry. She was a member of Forest Lake Presbyterian Church, Columbia, and was a former member of Emmanuel Episcopal Church, Franklin, and was presently attending Franklin Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include her husband, Thomas C. Winter; a daughter, Elisabeth ``Lisa'' D. Miller of Ladson, S.C.; two sons, John Thomas Winter and Matthew Christian Winter both of Franklin; her father, Cleveland J. ``C.J.'' Sykes of Franklin; a sister, Carol Mason Sykes of Greenville, N.C.; a grandchild, Brooke Margaret Miller. Mrs. Winter was predeceased by her mother, Margaret Bradsaw Sykes.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday in Franklin Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Jim Lambeth. Memorials may be made to the U.S. Tennis Association Schools Program, 707 Alexander Road, Princeton, N.J. 08540, or a favorite charity. Wright Funeral Home in charge.
