Fredrick L. Strong died Jan. 9, 1996, in a Norfolk hospital.
He was a commander in the U.S. Navy until he retired after 30 years of service. He was the widower of Nellie Mae Strong and a native of Springfield, Mass. He was a Catholic. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and the Korean War.
He is survived by two stepdaughters, Dorothy Copeland of Norfolk, Shirley Flora of Grandy, N.C.; two sons, Leo F. Strong of Norfolk, Joseph Strong of Birmingham, Ala.; a sister, Lettie Schaffer of Buffalo, N.Y.; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday by the Rev. Edward Richardson in Rosewood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Thursday from 7 to 8 p.m. at Smith and Williams Funeral Home, Norfolk Chapel.
