Arthur Davis Brown, 73, of the 1400 block of Taft Road, died Jan. 8, 1996, in the Veterans Administration hospital in Augusta, Ga. Mr. Brown was born Aug. 4, 1922, in Taliaferro County, Ga. He was preceded in death by his parents, William E. and Isabelle Ashburn Brown.
Mr. Brown retired from community services and from the Wesleyon Church Georgia District. He was a Marine and a veteran of World War II. Mr. Brown was a member of the Union Point Georgia Wesleyon Church and the D.A.V. Chapter (NU)43. Mr. Brown received the purple heart during World War II.
His survivors include his wife, Birdie Cooper Brown of Chesapeake; daughters, Frances B. Wilson of Liberty, S.C., and Mary B. Wright of Aiken, S.C.; son, Davis Brown of Chesapeake; sisters, Flossie Brown of Lake City, Fla., Gladys B. Brienholt of Salt Lake City, Utah, and Hazel B. Gomillion of Aiken, S.C.; and eight grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held today at 11 a.m. in the Napier Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Foster Gentry and the Rev. Sherwin Finch will be officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memory Gardens in Langley, S.C. Pallbearers will be Tracy Bledsoe, Robert Wright, Addition Brown, Philip Wilson, Hartwell Beck and Carlton Lord; honorary pallbearers DAV chapter (NU)43. Family will receive friends at the residence of his daughter, Mary B. Wright of 851 Wrights Mill Rd., Aiken, S.C., or at Napier Funeral Home from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday evening.
