Annie F. Calvert
CARY - Annie Foriest Calvert, 85, a resident of 938 Vickie Drive, died Sunday morning, Jan. 7, 1996, at Western Wake Medical Center.
Mrs. Calvert was the oldest child born to the union of the late John Thomas Foriest and Laura Tyner Foriest, and was reared in the Galatia Community of Northampton County, N.C. She was a life-long member of Zoar Baptist Church in Galatia and lived in Seaboard, N.C. for over 60 years until she moved to Cary in 1994. Mrs. Calvert graduated from Shaw University in 1931, received a Master's of Library Science degree from North Carolina Central University, and worked 42 years in North Carolina's public school system as a teacher and librarian until she retired in 1973.
Mrs. Calvert's husband, Samuel G. Calvert, preceded her in death in 1965, as did her son, Samuel G. Calvert Jr. in 1980. Surviving are her daughter, Suzy Calvert-French, formerly of Portsmouth, and son-in-law, Stuart M. French, of Cary; her sisters; Mrs. Alma F. Stephenson of Elizabethtown, N.C., and Mrs. Arimenthia F. Stephenson of Durham, N.C.; sisters-in-law, Mrs. Beatrice A. Hoskins of Portsmouth, Mrs. Annie F. Foriest of Upper Marlboro, Md., and Mrs. Evelyn P. Foriest of Winston-Salem, N.C.; and nieces, nephews and cousins; and many, many friends. Mrs. Calvert will be missed by everyone who knew her.
A funeral service will be held at noon Saturday at Zoar Baptist Church in Galatia, N.C., with the Rev. William F. Denson officiating. The family will receive friends at Faison's Funeral Home, Seaboard, N.C., on Friday, from 7 to 8 p.m.
