Charles Brady Doxey, 55, of the 2100 block of Shipyard Road, a retired short shoreman, died Jan. 6, 1996, of natural causes in his home.
Mr. Doxey had been retired for three years from ILA Local 1458 after 32 years of service. He was born in Chesapeake (then Norfolk County) and was the widower of Mary G. Doxey.
He was a member of Pleasant Grove Pentecostal Holiness Church, Chesapeake, where he served on the board of trustees, as a deacon and in the men's choir. His special honors include the Good Citizen Award. He was also a member of the Deep Creek Civic League.
He is survived by his five daughters, Zelva R. Doxey, Jessica M. Doxey, Charlene Y. Doxey, Danielle T. Doxey, Reshawn C. Doxey; two sisters, Rosa L. Johnson and Lucille Harper; three brothers, Daniel L. Riddick, Darris E. Riddick and Elvin W. Johnson; one grandchild, Marcus Lynn Brady Pope; close family member and friend, Clarence Mullen; uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Martha I. Cherry and Elvin W. Doxey; and grandparents, the late Charlie and Mary Riddick.
A funeral service will be held today at 1 p.m. in Pleasant Grove Pentecostal Holiness Church, 2643 Seven Eleven Road, the Bishop John H. Kindred D.D. presiding. Burial will be in Riddick Cemetery. Family and friends will assemble at 2148 Shipyard Road, Chesapeake, for the funeral procession at noon on Thursday. Hale Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
