Nathan McCall, who became a best-selling author with his autobiographical look at growing up black in Portsmouth, will be the keynote speaker for the 13th annual Awards Night of Cavalier Manor's neighborhood watch organization.
The 40-year-old journalist, on leave from The Washington Post, has signed a movie deal with John Singleton and is writing the screenplay to his book, ``Makes Me Wanna Holler: A Young Black Man in America.'' He also is writing a second book.
McCall has spoken in the area since his book came out, but this time he will be talking to his former neighbors in the community where he grew up.
The event is a fund-raiser and a recognition banquet for one of the city's oldest and most successful crime watch organizations.
It will be held at 7 p.m. Jan. 19 at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard Drydock Club.
Tickets for the buffet-style dinner are $25 and are being sold now by members of the organization. Seating is limited.
