Samuel Levi Thornton, 61, of the 800 block of Brighton St. died Jan. 7, 1996, in Urbanna, Va.
Mr. Thornton, a funeral director, worked for Fisher Funeral Home for over 35 years. He was a native of Urbanna and a member of Lebanon Baptist Church, Urbanna. He was an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. Mr. Thornton received his early education in the Middlesex County School System and was a graduate of Eckels College of Mortuary Science, Philadelphia, Pa.
Survivors include a daughter, Sandy Lee Brown of Portsmouth; two sons, Reginald Kevin Brown of Portsmouth, Vaughn Bryant of Alexandria, Va.; a sister, Emily T. Redmond of Philadelphia; a brother, Mazwell T. Thornton of Columbia, Md.; and nieces, nephews and many dear friends. He was predeceased by two brothers, Robert H. Thornton and Ned S. Thornton.
A Wake will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday in Zion Baptist Church, Portsmouth. The funeral will be held Monday, Jan. 15, 1996, at 1 p.m. in Lebanon Baptist Church. The interment will be in the Thornton Family Cemetery, Urbanna. Fisher Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
