Marie M. Monroe, 86, of the 6900 block of Mallard Drive, died Jan. 10, 1996, in a Norfolk hospital.
Mrs. Monroe, the widow of James A. Monroe Sr., was a native of York, Pa. She was a charter member of Royster Presbyterian Church. She was a charter member of Talbot Park Garden Club, past president of the Norfolk City Union of the Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters t/a CHKD. She was the daughter of the late David Russell Marshall and Macy V. Marshall.
Survivors include a son, James A. Monroe Jr. of Middlesex, Va.; four grandchildren, Catherine M. Carney of Norfolk, James Monroe III of Virginia Beach, Lee M. Winston of Norfolk, D. Michael Monroe of Big Sky, Mon.; and three great-grandchildren; and the mother of the grandchildren, Geraldine S. Monroe of Virginia Beach.
A graveside service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday in Forest Lawn Cemetery by Dr. John Monroe. The family will receive friends at 6909 Mallard Drive, Norfolk, from 3 to 7 p.m. today. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to CHKD, 601 Children's Lane, Norfolk, Va. 23507. Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Tidewater Drive Chapel, is in charge.
