Zion Hall Berry, age 77, of Barco, N.C., died Wednesday, Jan. 10, 1996, at his residence. His father, Maxie Berry, Sr. preceded him in death.
Mr. Berry work as a counter salesperson for the Booth Supply Company in Norfolk, Va., for 38 years, before retiring. He was a member of the Macedonia Disciples of Christ Church, Poplar Branch, N.C.; the Sandy Ridge Prince Hall Masonic Lodge, Jarvisburg, N.C., and a veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard.
Mr. Berry is survived by his spouse, Hattie Marie Burton Berry of the home; seven daughters, Ruth Lewis of Elizabeth City, Quanita Gregory of Virginia Beach, Annette Bailey of Barco, Zella Case of Carrboro, Stephanie Cates of Huber Heights, Ohio, Mary Berry-Nobbs of Chapel Hill and Arounia Mullen of New Bern; one son, Robert L. Richardson of Norfolk; mother, Arounia Scarborough Berry of Rocky Mount; two sisters, Cora Thompson of Somerville, N.J., and Angenora White of Rocky Mount; three brothers, Lindbergh Berry and Oscar Berry of Manteo and Donald Berry of New Jersey; 18 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held today at 2 p.m. with Bishop O.T. Nixon officiating at Macedonia Disciples of Christ Church, Poplar Branch, N.C. Burial will be at the Laruel Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Poplar Branch, N.C. with Masonic and Military Rites. Viewing will be Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Stallings Funeral Home, Elizabeth City, N.C., and the family will be at the home of the deceased. Stallings Funeral Home, Elizabeth City in charge.
