A non-gay voice will deliver one of the key speeches today at the sixth annual winter gay pride festival at Old Dominion University.
Jonathan Zucker, executive director of And Justice For All, ``a national organization working to establish a non-gay base of support for homosexuals,'' is scheduled to speak at 1 p.m. at the Webb Student Center.
Zucker is one of several speakers slated to be on hand for ``Breaking the Ice.'' The event is sponsored by the Hampton Roads Lesbian and Gay Pride Coalition and the ODU Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual Students and Allies.
The festival brings together scores of local vendors and organizations serving the local gay and lesbian community. There will be live entertainment through the day.
Also slated to speak is Sarah Richardson, chairperson of Virginians for Justice, a statewide lobbying group.
Workshops and roundtable discussions also will be conducted throughout the day. Among the topics: ``Lesbian and Gay Literature,'' ``Participating in the Political Process,'' ``Homosexuality and the Bible'' and ``The Virginia Religious Right: Waxing or Waning.''
At 7:30 p.m., the play ``Forget Him,'' by Harvey Fierstein will be performed in the Mills Godwin Building. It will be followed by a one-hour showing of several gay and lesbian films.
The daylong festival will be held from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is $3 for the general public, $2 for students. by CNB
