COX-KELLAM MEET LIKELY TO BE PIVOTAL

Although the Beach District gymnastics season is only three weeks old, the biggest meet of the season likely will be Tuesday's showdown between Cox and Kellam.

The meet, scheduled at Tallwood, also will feature a strong Lions squad that is 2-0. Cox was 2-0 heading into Thursday's meet at Princess Anne against the host Cavaliers, along with Bayside and Salem. Salem entered Thursday's meet 3-1.

Kellam will enter the meet untested since Monday's meet with First Colonial and Ocean Lakes was postponed to Feb. 8 at Ocean Lakes because of weather and the Knights had scheduled byes on opening day and last Thursday.

The top gymnasts to watch in Tuesday's competition will be Kellam all-arounds Michelle Alexander and Brooke Sawyer, Lana Pinera and Inga Frierhoffer of Cox, and Tallwood's Cheryl Risk and Laura Neaves.

District contender Kempsville (2-2) is off Tuesday. by CNB
