Mrs. Charlotte ``Lottie'' Boyce Carter, 92, of 1912 Holland Road, director and co-founder of Carter Vault Company, died in her home and went to be with the Lord on Jan. 13, 1996.
A native of Chowan County, she was the daughter of the late James E. and Hattie Bunch Boyce. She was preceded in death by her husband H.O. Carter, twin sons, Hubert and Herbert Carter, and a daughter, Alice C. King.
Mrs. Carter was the last charter member of the Suffolk Pentecostal Holiness Church, Kilby Shores Drive, which was organized in 1933. She was the first women's ministries president and Sunday School teacher.
Survivors include five daughters, Acene C. Byrum of Spring Grove, Foy C. Gwaltney, Joy C. Johnson, Peggy C. Holly, all of Suffolk, and Betty C. Dubose of Anderson, S.C.; four sons, Holmes Carter of the home, and Martin Carter, Delmar Carter, Don Carter, all of Suffolk; 27 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.
A funeral service will be conducted Tuesday at 2 p.m. in Suffolk Pentecostal Holiness Church, Kilby Shores Drive, by the Rev. Clifford McGraw, the Rev. Norwood Starling and the Rev. Daniel J. Campbell with burial in Cedar Hill Cemetery. The family will be at the R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home on Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the Steeple Fund of the church.
