THANKS, GENEROUS HAMPTON ROADS

On behalf of the cast, orchestra and crew of ``The Phantom of the Opera,'' I would like to express my gratitude to the people of Hampton Roads for their overwhelming generosity, supporting several benefits held during our stay in the region.

It is customary for our company to hold benefit concerts to raise money for local organizations. I am happy to report that we raised more than $5,000 each for the Tidewater AIDS Crisis Taskforce and for the Commonwealth Musical Stage in Virginia Beach.

We also collected donations at Chrysler Hall during Christmas week for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS. The group assists men, women and children living with HIV and AIDS in meeting payments for medical care, housing and food. We were able to raise more than $20,000!

The generosity of the people of Hampton Roads is outstanding. And not only were much-needed funds raised, but awareness of important local and national issues was heightened.

It is our hope that the people of this community will continue to support these local organizations throughout 1996.
