MAN SHOT IN PARKING LOT

A 26-year-old Chesapeake man was shot several times in the parking lot of an electronics store Monday afternoon.

Jose A. Martinez, 26, of the 2600 block of Golden Leaf Drive was hospitalized Monday night in serious condition.

Martinez was shot several times outside Zap Electronics in the 5300 block of Cleveland St. shortly before 3:30 p.m., said Mike Carey, Virginia Beach police spokesman.

Police are looking for a forest green mid-sized vehicle carrying several black males.

Carey said the men drove up to Martinez and a companion in the parking lot, opened fire from the car, then fled. Martinez fell, and his companion, who apparently was not hit, left the scene in a late-model Ford Taurus.

Police later Monday found the Taurus in the 200 block of Honeybrook Court with several bullet holes in the back window, trunk and side vent windows.

Martinez's companion has not been located, Carey said.

No motive for the shooting has been determined, Carey said. Anyone with information is asked to call 427-0000. All calls will be confidential.
