THEODORE J. CARR

Theodore J. Carr, 49, died Jan. 10, 1996, in MCV Hospital, Richmond.

Mr. Carr was born in Southampton County on Feb. 23, 1946, to the late Joseph Carr and Thelma L. Johnson of Portsmouth. He attended Southampton County High School in Courtland. A native of Boykins, he was a member of Mt. Tabor Baptist Church Newsoms, Va., in his earlier years. With more Christian experience, he moved his membership to Community Fellowship Church of Deliverance, Capron, Va. In or out of church, he was always willing and able to do for others. He went that extra mile for anyone. He was actively engaged in the nursing home and prison ministries. Mr. Carr was a retired security guard at Southampton County Correctional Center after more than fifteen years.

Survivors include his wife, Delores; daughters, Tomika, Tarsha, Toya, Teresa Carr of Franklin; his mother, Thelma Johnson of Portsmouth; guardian mother, Elma Henry of Rocky Mount, N.C.; sisters, Frances Dean of Virginia Beach, Albertha, Frances, Linda, all of Portsmouth, Dorothy Edwards of Fort Bragg, N.C.; brothers, Howard Carr of St. Mary's, Ga., Stanley Johnson of Portsmouth and Raymond Johnson of Long Beach, Calif.; and a host of in-laws, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and friends.

A funeral service was conducted at 2 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 13, 1996, at Mt. Tabor Baptist Church, Newsoms, Va., in which Dr. Roger S. Steele is pastor. Elder Albert Evans Jr. of Newport News was officiating pastor. Burial was in Mt. Tabor Cemetery with Engram Funeral Home, Courtland, in charge.
