MARVIN L. HOOKS

Marvin Lee Hooks, 60, of the 3700 block of Douglas Road, died Jan. 13, 1996, in Chesapeake.

He was the retired superintendent of the Department of Parks and Recreation for the City of Portsmouth, where he worked for 23 years. He was a native of Portsmouth and the widower of Bernadette S. Hooks.

He is survived by three daughters, Ethel Sawyer, Victoria McKenzie, both of Portsmouth, and Marverne Hooks of New York; five sons, Marvin Lee Hooks Jr. of New York, Cecil Hooks, Danny Hooks, Darrell A. Smith, and Melvin Hooks, all of Portsmouth; a sister, Kathy Bethea of Washington, D.C.; 17 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, and friends.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday by the Rev. F.R. Williams in Corprew Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park, Chesapeake. A viewing at the funeral home will begin at noon Sunday. The family will be at the home of his son, Darrell A. Smith, 2802 Arcadia Ave., Portsmouth, on Sunday, and will assemble there for the funeral service on Monday. ILLUSTRATION: Photo
