JAMES W. GUNTER JR.

James William ``Bill'' Gunter Jr., 72, of the 1600 block of East Bayview Blvd., died Jan. 16, 1996, in a Hampton hospital.

Mr. Gunter, a native of Norfolk, was retired from the U.S. Government Naval Air Rework Facility, where he worked for 27 years. He was a Cpl. in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Freeman Gunter; a daughter, Linda Gunter Boyd-Prince of Virginia Beach; a sister, Betty Lee Hersch of Virginia Beach; two grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; and two stepdaughters, Patricia Woods of Norfolk and Kelley Freeman of Virginia Beach.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday in Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Tidewater Drive Chapel, by Father Edward L. Richardson. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. today. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to John A. Lejeune, Virginia Beach Detachment, Marine Corps League, P.O. Box 62676, Virginia Beach, Va. 23462 or to the Military Order of the Purple Heart, Michael E. Hopkins Chapter (NU)136, 250 Jersey Ave., Virginia Beach 23462.
