JAMES L. ARTIS

James Lloyd Artis, of 30472 Vicksville Road, died Tuesday, Jan. 16, 1996, in Southampton Memorial Hospital.

He was a native of Southampton County, Va. He was retired form Naval Aviations Depot, Norfolk, after 27 years. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Burdette, Va., where he was chairman and decon since 1969. He was also superintendent of the Sunday school. He was a member of Worshipful Master of the Courtland Masonic Lodge No. 185, F & A.M.

He is survived by his wife, Mary L. Scott Artis; three daughters, Margaret Reese of Chesapeake, Carolyn Williams of Franklin, Charlotte Askew of Newport New; seven sons, Clarence Artis, Leroy Artis of Virginia Beach, the Rev. James Artis of Smithfield, Ronald Artis of Sedley, Milton Artis of Arlington, Va., Alexander Artis of Newport News, and Ricky Artis of Atlanta, Ga.; two sisters, Mary Barnes of Suffolk, Mary Warren of Sedley; and 17 grandchildren.

A funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday in First Baptist Church, Burdette, Va., by the Rev. J.H. Hampton. Burial is in Southview Cemetery. Wm. M. Johnson and Sons Funeral Home in charge.
