WOLCOTT NEW PRESIDENT OF STATE REALTORS

Barbara Wolcott, vice president and general manager of The Prudential Decker Realty, is the new president of the Virginia Association of Realtors. She was installed in a ceremony Friday in Richmond.

Wolcott, who lives in Virginia Beach, has been in real estate 26 years, the last 13 with Decker. She takes over the VAR as it downsizes both its committees and its directorate.

Wolcott plans to emphasize education, communication and legislative goals during her year in office. She said the real estate industry is worried about plans to end the mortgage interest tax deduction and increases in local transfer taxes involving house sales.

Richard B. Thurmond, president of William E. Wood & Associates in Virginia Beach, will serve as president of the Metro MLS for 1966. Other new officers are William H. Kline Jr., president of Kline Realty Co. in Portsmouth, vice president; Dorcas T. Helfant, president of Coldwell Banker Helfant Realty in Virginia Beach, secretary, and M. Terry Pine, regional vice president of Long & Foster Real Estate in Virginia Beach, treasurer.

Elected to the board of directors were Thomas J. Decker Jr., president of The Prudential Decker Realty, Virginia Beach; George L. Ayers, president of Realty Consultants, Virginia Beach, and Billy G. Coons, president of Realty Executives, Virginia Beach.

Metro MLS also reports that it processed 16,220 real estate transactions during 1995, totaling $1.8 billion. The average selling price last year was $109,411, a slight increase over the $106,240 calculated in 1994.

Kudos: Teresa Jalbert of William E. Wood & Associates has been named among the top luxury real estate professionals in the country by Unique Homes magazines. She is featured in the 6th annual Elite edition, now on the newsstands.

Four staffers from Rose & Krueth Realty Corp. were Region 17 winners in the National Association of Homebuilders national sales and marketing competition.
