SWITCHING CHANNELS IN HAMPTON ROADS

Replacing Dr. Duane Harding as weatherman at WTKR Channel 3 is the straw that broke the camel's back.

As for me and my house, we are switching to another channel.

So the good Dr. Duane's talent is no longer needed.

After being a WTKR listener since 1977, I've decided it's time to switch. When a station places a higher priority on the hair color/style of its newscasters and the color scheme of its studio than it does on presenting the news/weather/sports accurately and credibly, shame on that station.

It was demeaning to put Dr. Duane ``on the roof.'' He may not be Mr. America, but he projects credibility, honesty and a general concern for the environment. I will miss his garden reports and his no-nonsense approach to presentation of the weather. It's a disgrace that a politically correct image is more important than substance.

Smooth sailing, Dr. Duane.

Having just read that Dr. Duane Harding was fired from WTKR because he ``doesn't fit the image,'' I agree: He takes the weather report seriously. He doesn't need to make jokes, giggle or bet on ball teams to get the weather across.

I hope Dr. Duane goes to work for one of the other local stations, as I will be changing stations.
