So far this season, Elizabeth City State University is making CIAA prognosticators look bad.
Picked to finish last in the CIAA Northern Division, the Vikings rose above the .500 mark this past weekend with wins over CIAA opponents.
The key to the Vikings' success so far has been team play. In both weekend road wins, five players scored in double figures. Seven players altogether scored in double figures in the two games, showing the Vikings have a strong bench.
On Saturday night, the Vikings sneaked past Virginia State 82-79. Anthony Harris led the ECSU attack with 19 points and also grabbed 11 rebounds. Maurice Mincey scored 14 points, Sharano Woodley and Adrian Bell knocked in 12 points apiece, and Walter Wright added 11 points.
On Monday, the Vikings had an easy time with Livingstone, 93-78.
Once again, Harris led the Vikings' scoring with 26 points and hauled in 14 rebounds. He went 10-for-12 from the floor and six-for-seven from the foul line.
Other double-figure scorers were Mincey with 17 points and 16 rebounds, Bernard Cooper with 16 points, Theron Curry with 14 points and Woodley with 10 points. by CNB
