The race for City Council seats will begin Wednesday when Cameron Pitts holds a news conference to announce his ``intent for elected office.''
Pitts is completing his first term on council and is expected to run for re-election as a council member; however, there have been some citizens who have talked of backing Pitts for mayor.
Incumbent Mayor Gloria Webb is expected to seek a third term, although she has not made her intentions public.
Other council members whose terms expire this year are Bernard Griffin and Jim Hawks.
The filing deadline for the May 7 election is March 5.
Pitts' news conference will begin at 11 a.m. in Council Chambers on the sixth floor of City Hall, 801 Crawford St.
