The Navy is investigating the cause of a fire that broke out late Saturday night aboard the aircraft carrier John F. Kennedy, injuring 18 sailors.
The fire, in the ship's forward hangar bay, lasted 5 minutes and caused minor paint and electrical damage, the Navy said Sunday. The training carrier, homeported in Mayport, Fla., has resumed normal operations.
Seventeen sailors suffered minor injuries such as smoke inhalation, a broken finger and eye irritation. One sailor with a broken toe remained in the ship's infirmary.
The Kennedy was conducting night flight training 150 miles off Florida when the fire erupted.
