Robert Lee Chamblee, 72, of Route 4, died Jan. 21, 1996, in Guardian Care Nursing Home, Ahoskie.
Mr. Chamblee was born in Hertford County, N.C., and was retired as a section foreman from the North Carolina Department of Transportation. He was a member and former deacon of Hickory Chapel Free Will Baptist Church. He was a life member of Disabled American Veterans and Murfreesboro VFW and a member of Roanoke Chowan Wildlife Club. A Navy veteran of World War II, he received the Purple Heart and was a survivor of the USS Vincennes.
Survivors include his wife, Valeria Brown Chamblee; a daughter, Phyllis Hoggard of Ahoskie; a son, Wayne Chamblee of Queensbury, N.Y.; two sisters, Mary Chamblee Overton and Bessie Chamblee Dilday, both of Ahoskie; a brother, John Elton Chamblee of Edenton; and two grandchildren.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Garrett Funeral Home by the Rev. Robert May. Burial will be in Ahoskie Cemetery with military honors. The family will receive friends at the home.
