Donna Dignard has worked at the Courthouse Diner since it opened three years ago, waiting on customers, cooking and serving up meals.
And since early this month, she has owned the tiny restaurant at 17167 Courthouse Highway, just across the road from the Isle of Wight County Courthouse.
``I still work here!'' the Windsor woman says. ``I'm just doing a little more cooking now.''
Dignard, 26, bought the Courthouse Diner after former owner Don Kennels decided last fall to close the restaurant for personal reasons.
``It was going to shut down, and I really hated to see that happen,'' Dignard says. ``I've always been interested in the restaurant business. I thought this would be a good opportunity for me.''
Other than a few additions to the menu, including a taco salad and a larger hamburger, customers will find little change in the fare or cozy atmosphere, Dignard says.
``Except for a few desserts, everything we serve will be homemade. We want to continue providing county employees with a close place to eat at a reasonable price.'' by CNB
